Remember the NLP Presupposition: “There is no Failure, there is only Feedback.” What people fear most is often the negative feedback from others and that negative voice in their own head.
Notice how often you hear people say “I’m sorry I didn’t… I’m trying…I am not good at…I’m terrible with…”
What I’m hearing is often shame, guilt, embarrassment, abdication and even fear of getting into trouble. It is the language of learned helplessness and hopelessness. These lead one to a lack of choice and possibilities.
When you say “I am…” you are making an identity statement. You are making this a definition of you, your brand and what you stand for.
So what identity statements are you making on a daily basis, in the context of your family, your work, your business, and most importantly, yourself?
Are these statements positive and are they supporting you and the people around you? Or are they bringing you down?
If something hasn’t worked out (yet) or you haven’t learned how to do something (yet) and someone lets you know about it, take the feedback as a great opportunity for growth.
Say “I appreciate you giving me the feedback… and I will…”.
Realize that you have now committed with an ACTION word to do something rather than issued an identity statement. Commit to the action and notice how your strength in character and your results in your life compound!
It’s similar to the word “Try”. Ultimately you are either committed to doing something or you’re not. So COMMIT and get on with positively compounding your life!
REMEMBER to empower yourself with “I am” statements that serve you and others!
